You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain.
You who bring good news to Jerusalem,
Lift up your voice with a shout,
Lift it up, do not be afraid;
Say to the towns of Judah,
“Here is your God!”
I recently had the privilege of previewing a documentary by Jews for Jesus called Flowers of the Son. The film gives an inside look into the challenges faced by the evangelists who are pounding the streets of Israel, sharing the gospel of Jesus with anyone who will listen as part of the Behold Your God campaign which began in 2009. For only a thirty minute film, there’s a ton of information there.
I think as Americans in general, we are so truly oblivious to the plight of others around the world. And especially as one who lives in the South – the Bible belt as it’s called – it’s hard for me to grasp that there are people in the world who truly have no idea who Jesus is. For me, Flowers of the Son was eye-opening. I was dumbfounded that according to the film, the majority of Israelis don’t have any idea about Jesus or who He was. I was even more shocked to find that the Jewish people don’t really even have access to the New Testament. You won’t find a Bible with the New Testament in a bookstore in Israel. It’s just not available. I guess I’ve always assumed that knowledge of Jesus was common in Israel. It’s where He lived and had His ministry. Yet those Jews who do know of Him, call Him Yeshu which is an acronym in Hebrew for “may his name and memory be blotted out” and for the Jews, it would seem that it has.
In the film we are introduced to a gentleman who after talking with one of the Jews for Jesus evangelists, came to know Christ. He’d never had the opportunity to read the New Testament, but said once he started, he plowed through the entire thing in about two weeks. He said it was like he had discovered a treasure that had been hidden from him until now. Praise God for the efforts of those like Jews for Jesus who, even in the face of what is sometimes violent opposition, continue to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Incidentally, I get no recompense for this post…I just think Jews for Jesus is an amazing organization and wanted to share.
